Volunteer Opportunities


As we grow as a Community we would like to invite everyone to help us with our stray population here in Pickens County. We appreciate everyone's input and everyone's help. Due to liability volunteers must sign a release form and be at least 13 years of age or if under the age of 18 must have a signed release form witnessed by a parent or guardian prior to volunteering.

    Media Makers- writing newspaper articles, ETC TV segments, advertisements, flyers distribution

    Foster Home Frontline- delivering food/medical/housing supplies to various foster homes, following up via phone or email to make sure the pets are well, calling interested new foster homes for interview, mailing out foster home packets, getting paperwork signed and filed.

    Event Planners- working on logistics planning of large events such as Bow Wow Meow Luau, Hound Dog Golf Tournament, Rabies Clinic, Flea Market, Silent Auction….

    Adoption Teams- setting up/coordinating the PetsMart or other off-site adoptions, meeting families at Rescue Ranch for adoptions during the week or weekend. Planning which pets are to go to each one.

    Help Line Helpers – check our telephone messages from your home or work and return calls as needed; delegate via email those that require a board member or committee member’s involvement. Rotations weekly between volunteers. Manual provided.

    Toting Train: transporting of animals from foster homes to the vet clinics or Rescue Ranch. Daytime hours req’d. Crates are provided but personal vehicle is needed.

    Website Workers- providing via email the home page information to webmaster; updating current date/event information, inputting and updating owner-give-up section and lost/found sections of website.

    Grant Getters- locating available grants, requesting applications, work on the actual writing of grants and follow up on awarded grants.

    Donation Dogs- set up and plan and coordinate supply drives, in-kind donations, thank you correspondence notes, phone calls to companies to acquire donations. Deliver donated items to storage/rescue ranch.

    Quality Controllers- Inspections for sanitary and overall condition of Rescue Ranch. Providing report to Board Members. Check list is provided.

    Documentation Doers- filing at Rescue Ranch the past adoption forms, in-take forms, general administrative work. Preparing pet folders for each fostered pet and keeping them current.

    In-take Decision Makers- providing authorization to various help line callers and/or vet clinics to accept a pet into our foster program. Working with foster home frontline to make sure a home is available for the particular pet prior to in-take date.
    Asset Managers- managing what equipment each volunteer has at their homes, what is in storage, what needs to be purchased; documentation with digital photos and spreadsheet. Keeping the storage unit organized and equipment is in working order.

    TNR (trap/neuter/release)Trainers- Training volunteers on the program, follow up with colony feeders, tracking in-take and release of ferals, educating the public.

    Abuse Alerters- work with county/city government on ordinances and legal issues; follow up on animal abuse cases in and around our county, educating public with literature or public seminars.

     Rescue Ranchers- set up, coordinate and plan what work is needed at the rescue ranch on “work days” or other times. Tote food and supplies to ranch, laundry dirty towels and blankets on rotation basis with other volunteers.

    Community Compassion Comrades- working within a budget to approve requested vet care for those that cannot afford to care for their personal pets. Creating forms and procedures for this type of charity assistance.

    Building Beavers- Long range planning for PAR’s physical needs and Rescue Ranch alterations. fundraising for building and researching options.

    Maintenance Member- scheduling and coordinating routine maintenance items on PAR’s vehicle, and equipment at Rescue Ranch.

     Photo Clickers- photographing our available pets, which involves going to vet clinics, foster homes, rescue ranch or other locations.  Updating photos on the website in timely fashion so pets can be adopted more quickly. Also, photographing at special events throughout the year.

    Planned Giving Planners- working on letters, brochures and gather information to present to individuals about planned giving to PAR. Presenting this information to groups or law offices.

    Weekend Workers- working at the Rescue Ranch on tenant’s weekend off doing routine feeding, cleaning of pets. Shift work with morning and evening shifts available.

    Fundraising Follies- creative ideas and initial planning for new fundraising events. Brain storming on ideas and presenting them to the board for approval.

     Go-Getters- driving to warehouses in Atlanta and other locations to pick up donated items such as cat liter, food, panel pens, dog houses…   as needed basis.

    Medical Team- providing and implementing vaccines, routine vet care to our foster homes. Keeping inventory levels at the required levels and working with administrative person on ordering items needed. Providing “health care report due” to the Rescue Ranch Tenant on weekly basis and updating PAR’s database via the website with medical care given to each foster home in a timely manner.
